How to Measure Your Head
- Grab a soft measuring tape or a piece of string (like twine or a shoelace) and a ruler or measuring tool
- Wrap a soft tape or string around your head to measure about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above your ear and about 3/4 to an 1" inch above your brow line (see image)
- Mark the tape or your string, where it intersects, with your finger.
- Record your measurement in inches or centimeters (centimeters is often more accurate)
- If you're using a string, run it along side the ruler as many times as necessary to get a complete measurement
- MEASURE AGAIN!
- Always measure more than once until you get the same number twice
- Find your size in the chart for the perfect fit

This was my third hat from American HatMakers, and like the first two, the Boondocks is a great hat. Nice soft felt, fit is good (I did add a hat sizer to fine tune the fit). Ordered a medium like my other two hats, but this hat in a medium was too big. The exchange process was easy and I had the small size in 3 days.

The Fedora is incredibly comfortable and is wide enough to block the sun from my face. With my recent kidney transplant, I was looking for a hat that can keep my face protected from the sun. With my recent transplant, I am susceptible to illnesses and sun cancer is one of them. This hat is a true life saver for me. I like the hat and I like the service that you provide. Although I’m not happy with your sizing chart. My measurements are 57.5 mm and your hat sizes say that a 58 to 59 mm is a large and a 56 to 57 is a medium, and I finally had to order a small Just to get the hat to fit me . I feel like you should correct your hat, size chart, or get a better understanding of what it should be.
