How to Measure Your Head
- Grab a soft measuring tape or a piece of string (like twine or a shoelace) and a ruler or measuring tool
- Wrap a soft tape or string around your head to measure about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above your ear and about 3/4 to an 1" inch above your brow line (see image)
- Mark the tape or your string, where it intersects, with your finger.
- Record your measurement in inches or centimeters (centimeters is often more accurate)
- If you're using a string, run it along side the ruler as many times as necessary to get a complete measurement
- MEASURE AGAIN!
- Always measure more than once until you get the same number twice
- Find your size in the chart for the perfect fit

I have been wearing Indy fedoras for about 15 years. Always my "go-to" hat. I was excited to find another so similar. However, I wasn't expecting it to be quite so stiff. But then my previous ones were crushable. Definitely not a deal breaker. But the sizing was on the small side. According to my measurements, I fall into the medium category, but upon receiving this hat, I had to force it over my forehead. I called customer service and they were more than willing to exchange it, but this hat is not available in a larger size. We discussed possibly steaming it and wearing it to stretch to my size. The gentlemen assured me that I could try that without affecting the warranty.
I steamed it several times under the sweatband and outside where the crown meets the brim, and wore it for a couple of hours. Much better fit. Which pleased me. I didn't want to exchange such a nice hat for something different. So glad it worked out. It may have been an off day with manufacture because all the reviews said fit was good. Things happen, and was able to fix the issue.

I love the look, I really wanted a fur felt hat, but could not justify at this point spending $250. This is a very definite good alternative. I guess the kid and me wanted an Indiana Jones style hat. I have worn Stetson felt fedora‘s in the past but never one like this. I actually ordered a wool Stetson before this and it was so poorly built, I sent it back. I had never heard of American Hat Makers but decided to give it a shot. It’s more of a structured hat, it doesn’t have any give in it. It is the shape it is when you get it unless you have it reshaped but I like the shape and overall I’m happy with the hat. One concern I had was it was a little big, but I found the Velcro adjustment and tightened it and now it fits perfect. You have won over a new customer. Thank you, American Hat Makers. PS: this is my wife’s account. She set it up because she ordered the hat for me, but I am personally giving the review.

Love the hat, bought it for winter golf and haven’t worn ii out yet. Too hot here.Been wearing the straw Milan hat for golf. As a man who has been wearing ball caps for 50 plus years, it is an adjustment.Dermatologist said protect those ears are we will start cutting.Now I’m thinking I would like a more casual look for golf like one of the crushables. I can’t make up my mind on that.

Switching from ball caps after so many years can definitely be an adjustment, but you’re on the right track, keeping those ears protected. A crushable would give you that laid-back golf look and the flexibility to take it anywhere.

I went to my daughters’s house in San Diego for Xmas from Seattle. I received multiple compliments on both legs of the trip. It was my first time wearing it in some weather here.
