How to Measure Your Head
- Grab a soft measuring tape or a piece of string (like twine or a shoelace) and a ruler or measuring tool
- Wrap a soft tape or string around your head to measure about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above your ear and about 3/4 to an 1" inch above your brow line (see image)
- Mark the tape or your string, where it intersects, with your finger.
- Record your measurement in inches or centimeters (centimeters is often more accurate)
- If you're using a string, run it along side the ruler as many times as necessary to get a complete measurement
- MEASURE AGAIN!
- Always measure more than once until you get the same number twice
- Find your size in the chart for the perfect fit

I went to my daughters’s house in San Diego for Xmas from Seattle. I received multiple compliments on both legs of the trip. It was my first time wearing it in some weather here.
Fits perfect, held up great, and looks really good no matter what clothes you’re wearing, for me it was tshirt and hiking pants. I this is my 5th hat I’ve bought from AMH and it won’t be the last. Granddaughter loves the taste too.

My first hat from American Hat Makers was the Boondocks, it fit ok using the sizing pads. I really liked the make and style but unfortunately I accidentally left it in Oslo, Norway. Next I tried the Adventure, a style I liked very much but the hat was hard and very stiff. I felt if I did anything to the brim it would break. Next came the Pathfinder, the perfect hat! It looks great, fits great and was well priced. The Boondocks and Pathfinder are both the same size (medium) but the Pathfinder seems slightly smaller and fits me perfectly. It took a while but with a great return policy and selection I did find the perfect hat.
