How to Measure Your Head
- Grab a soft measuring tape or a piece of string (like twine or a shoelace) and a ruler or measuring tool
- Wrap a soft tape or string around your head to measure about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above your ear and about 3/4 to an 1" inch above your brow line (see image)
- Mark the tape or your string, where it intersects, with your finger.
- Record your measurement in inches or centimeters (centimeters is often more accurate)
- If you're using a string, run it along side the ruler as many times as necessary to get a complete measurement
- MEASURE AGAIN!
- Always measure more than once until you get the same number twice
- Find your size in the chart for the perfect fit

I am a Hawaiian featherwork artist. One type of item I fabricate is the Hawaiian feather hat bands, which were popularized after contact with the west and now often adorn hats on festive occasions. I came to American Hat Company seeking a new hat to use to model my hat bands in product photos. Featherwork being a native craft, I sought a hat of natural materials and color. I chose the men's Cozumel and held my breath, not knowing if it would meet my expectations. I was more than pleasantly surprised at the hat that arrived! The shape was perfect, the brim edges skillfully finished, the weave tight, and it fit (faith in sizing charts restored)! It is an exceedingly photogenic and comfortable straw hat! Last year, I sent a question to customer service about the leather band that comes with the hat, and they answered promptly and cheerfully, and this factored into my decision to make my recent purchase. I am completely happy with every aspect of this hat---material, color, craftsmanship, quality, price, service, shipping and delivery, packaging. The only surprise I experienced with my order was that nothing went awry, at all! ---Sad, but true in the age of online shopping where the customer, product quality, and service fall too often through the cracks. If you want a straw hat but don’t want a cowboy or fedora your options are limited. Fortunately this hat is available. Really comfy and well designed and well made. It has a bit of an Amish farmer look to it which I don’t mind. This hat isn’t something you wear to the club. Unless it’s the beach club that is! Seriously I plan to wear this golfing gardening or beaching this year. I already love it.
