How to Measure Your Head
- Grab a soft measuring tape or a piece of string (like twine or a shoelace) and a ruler or measuring tool
- Wrap a soft tape or string around your head to measure about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above your ear and about 3/4 to an 1" inch above your brow line (see image)
- Mark the tape or your string, where it intersects, with your finger.
- Record your measurement in inches or centimeters (centimeters is often more accurate)
- If you're using a string, run it along side the ruler as many times as necessary to get a complete measurement
- MEASURE AGAIN!
- Always measure more than once until you get the same number twice
- Find your size in the chart for the perfect fit

The hat is very nice, blocks the sun well. Very breathable. Preventing my scalp from getting burnt up, while fishing. However the leather retainer strap needs a lockable adjustment for windy conditions. The wood ball provided, slips or loosens until the hat blows off your head.

This is my second hat from American Hat Makers. The hat is fantastic and fits my 8 1/4 head in both width and depth. It’s great!
What’s even greater is the customer service! I had an issue with my first purchase, the hat didn’t fit my big head. These guys went out of their way to make sure they took care of me. They are doing it right.

First time I wore the "white straw hat", it got wet with sweat and the headbands die stained the hat. AHM was quick to correct this and sent a new one. It also came with the same leather headband, which I immediately removed and will replace with a different type.

This hat is a cult classic. I wear it to referee water polo (we have to wear all white), and it is so attractive that I get asked about the hat and complimented on at least a half-dozen times per tournament. They joke that my hat needs its own website. There are, however, two problems with the hat. The wood bead is effectively useless (I ordered some cheap clips that slide up to solve that), and the leather strap is twice as thin as it should be. Mine has broken three times from strong winds, merely pulling the strap from your neck and the weight of the hat breaking it. My strap is now knotted and I can't cinch it up. I would love a replacement strap that is stronger.
