How to Measure Your Head
- Grab a soft measuring tape or a piece of string (like twine or a shoelace) and a ruler or measuring tool
- Wrap a soft tape or string around your head to measure about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above your ear and about 3/4 to an 1" inch above your brow line (see image)
- Mark the tape or your string, where it intersects, with your finger.
- Record your measurement in inches or centimeters (centimeters is often more accurate)
- If you're using a string, run it along side the ruler as many times as necessary to get a complete measurement
- MEASURE AGAIN!
- Always measure more than once until you get the same number twice
- Find your size in the chart for the perfect fit

So I tryed it on at a fancy expensive store and loved the color and the look. They didn't have anything but S and XL so took a quick pick of tag. Went to American Hat web sight and found the size (M 7 1/8) in brown which i loved. Got the hat in a special hat shipping box. Couldn't be more thrilled!!! Fit was tight at first which I knew from well fitting leather hats and after a day of wearing form fitted perfectly! I live in snow country so used water proofing wax and brushed after. This beauty is bullet proof!

I’ve had the brown version of this hat for two years and I’ve worn it everywhere from walking around in town to working my land outside in the rain. I’ve sweat in it, dropped it, had it fly off me head while driving my side by side and hit my head on a low branch when I wasn’t paying attention. It’s easy to clean the salt off from sweat and it has kept its shape and appearance through everything, even battering by branches. If anything, after two years of seasonal use (it IS warm after all) it’s looks even better and has even more character. I just found this website and I’m seriously considering buying a second one just to have as a backup should something ever happen to mine! I’ve gotten many compliments while out on town and my wife thinks I look great in it, even if my daughter makes fun of me (she’s ornery!)! I love this hat!

I got the black leather to wear on those windy and not so good weather days. That aren't real friendly to your good felt hats.

These two hats have been extremely valuable and excellent additions to my line up. I wear these to work and we go out wind, rain, snow, and shine. From extreme heat and humidity in the summer to frigid 0 and sub 0 degrees winter. They offer good control of sun blocking for vision. They have a perfect and tunable fit depending on the day so work, wind and play are not an issue. 5 Star hats!
