How to Measure Your Head
- Grab a soft measuring tape or a piece of string (like twine or a shoelace) and a ruler or measuring tool
- Wrap a soft tape or string around your head to measure about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above your ear and about 3/4 to an 1" inch above your brow line (see image)
- Mark the tape or your string, where it intersects, with your finger.
- Record your measurement in inches or centimeters (centimeters is often more accurate)
- If you're using a string, run it along side the ruler as many times as necessary to get a complete measurement
- MEASURE AGAIN!
- Always measure more than once until you get the same number twice
- Find your size in the chart for the perfect fit

This hat makes cranky old men look good. Even my wife likes to see me wear it.
I've searched for a long time for a broad-brim outback hat that would look good with a puggaree. This one is perfect. I made this puggaree from 0.85" tubular gauze, but I may replace with a darker, 1" cotton ribbon.

I have quite a few hats from AHM. I always order the same size. Some how these were a bit bigger. I had to buy some velco because the spacers i have wouldn't stick. Otherwise as always I love my hats and I am always getting compliments

The material quality was decent, but I struggled to get one that fit me using my measurements. I sent back the first one for being too large, and a size down was still too loose on my head. I don't think that a hat shouldn't rely so much upon those resizing strings to fit people. The fit aside, I was willing to give it a try for a while and see how I if it grew on me. That's when I saw the "made in China" tag inside the headband. I chose American Hat Makers because I assumed I'd be getting a made-in-America hat, so that left a bad taste in my mouth. I may not swear off AHM entirely, but this is a bad first experience.

Like all apparel, hats are a matter of taste. This is a large, magnificent, well-made hat. It attracts attention and compliments. I love it, but if someone wants a hat that no one will ever notice, this is not the right hat for that person.

The only complaint I have with the hat is the "MADE IN CHINA" label sewn inside. Seems rather inappropriate to have made in China in a hat from American Hat Makers. If I had known this in advance I definitely would not have purchased it. With this one exception American Hat Makers service has been excellent.
